First called Coarsegold Gulch, and for a while Texas Flat, the first deep lode mine was here.Coarsegold Coarsegold, is reminiscent of the days when ranching was king. Cattle, sheep, and hogs were common. Old timers recount family stories of the days before the railroad when bands of hogs were driven more than 100 miles to Stockton markets. All that remains of Coarsegold's companion town of the gold rush days, Finegold, which once boasted several thousand residents, is a creek bearing that name.
