Fish Camp

Fish CampFish Camp, nestled in the trees at 5,000 feet, is a small private community located in the Sierra National Forest, just two miles from the south entrance to Yosemite National Park on Highway 41. All the wonders of the famous national park are only minutes away. You can visit the historic Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, enjoy fishing, hiking, and horseback riding along spectacular streams and meadows.

Sugar Pine RailroadFish Camp was named in 1881 when Albert Philip filed a timber claim in that name on property in the area. In 1883, the town included the two-story Summerdale Hotel, a store, post office, saloon, some barns and a dance hall which held dances seven days a week. The Summerdale name is retained by a U.S. Forest Service campground on Big Creek, a short distance above the town. The original hotel site that was later the site of the Silver Tip Lodge. The Silver Tip Lodge was a popular summer resort for many years which burned in 1981.

The town was a center for logging and summer cattle ranges, and a place to change horses on the road from Wawona to the railroad head in Raymond. Real estate in the area is predominately vacation cabins. With its proximity to Yosemite the area features lodging, dining and recreational activities.
